Charity Leaders’ Exchange |
Supporting And Encouraging The Next Generation Of Charity Leaders

Last night I went to two very interesting events. First, I popped in to the Head Office of LinkedIn to an event that they were holding explaining about how LinkedIn supports charities and volunteering. I have been in discussion with them for some time about helping charities find good Trustees for their Boards.
I'm a massive fan of LinkedIn and I look forward to explaining more about how it can help charity leaders at our seminar this coming Monday.
I then went to speak at an event hosted by Stone King LLP, one of the partners of the CLE.
The initiative is called the Young Charity Professionals Group and is sponsored by Stone King, Gerald Eve, Sarasin and Partners and PwC.
There was a great mix of people both from the charity sector and from organisations that support the sector. In my speech I talked about what it was like starting off in the sector myself (and how I wished I had been able to meet people via such a group). I also discussed how being a Trustee and having a mentor have both made a great difference to my career and to my understanding of charities.
As a senior charity leader I am sure you will agree with me how important it is to nurture young talent coming through. Young people need to feel that they have a real place in the sector, that their views will be respected and that they can have a rewarding career. For a whole host of reasons I feel that a lot of young people don't know the sector can be a place for them and we lose out on some brilliant people as a result. Hopefully the work of Stone King and others can help to address this.
