• IBM runs a successful work experience programme. Students aged between 14 and 20 have the chance to spend time at IBM and receive careers advice at schools, colleges and universities.
• IBM works with different academic institutions to provide learners with workshops, mock interviews and a mentoring system. Students are also given access to IBM technology in order to develop their skills.
• A popular apprenticeship programme provides a valuable alternative to university education.The two year course combines a full time IBM job with the opportunity to gain professional qualifications.
• IBM looks for specific skills from potential candidates, including energy, creativity and focus. Those already employed by IBM are expected to share key desirable personality traits known as 'foundational competencies'.
• Technical and creative skills will be vital for dealing with technological developments in the future, and all jobs are likely to contain an element of lifelong learning.
